Happy "Would Be" 63rd Wedding Anniversary
Yesterday, Sunday, August 25, would have been my parent's 63rd wedding anniversary. But God called my dad home at their 61 1/2 wedding anniversary mark.
Think about that! Roy and Gladys Webster were husband and wife since August 1950. Married in Big Rapids, Michigan. Mid-century and Mid-west at age 20 and 21.
My dad had served during WWII, albeit sneaking into the Army as a 14 year old.
They married at the half century mark. In 1950, Harry Truman was president. The Mao-led Communist forces marched on Beijing. NATO was created. The musical South Pacific was unveiled on Broadway for the first time. The top show on Television was Hopalong Cassidy.
My dad was a pastor in Michigan. They raised four daughters, including one with special needs. They loved God and they stayed together for more than half a century.
I'll take that over anything our modern culture has to offer.
