We got SNOW! Okay, I know... snow... big deal, right? But it's so beautiful. And while many people don't like it, this girl here loves watching it, looking at it, sometimes playing in it (but not for long), and then I just want to stay inside where it's warm and let someone else play in it. You have to admit though, snow does add a bit (okay, a LOT) of beauty to the trees, fence posts, driveway, yard, etc. And it also adds a bit of nostalgia to the view no matter where you live.
This year, the snow added something else for me. Looking down our driveway after coming home from town, I had my husband stop so I could take a picture. Looking at the trees, fence posts, houses (we live in the corner of a field and share our area with out daughter), and vehicles, all covered in the beautiful white of the snow, I began to realize that this must be what God sees when He looks at us after Jesus' blood covers us.
It's like the old hymn says, "Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow..." I can't imagine anything whiter than snow, because what I was looking at was a virtual Winter Wonderland right here on my own property! But thinking about how pure and clean everything looked, I began to wonder about what I must look like as well.
Oh sure, I mess up. Frequently! I mean, I missed my posting date, for Pete's sake, so yeah I mess up! But having the assurance that I'm forgiven, I am washed whiter than snow. I can't seem to stress this enough. For me, it was a sort of break-through. Just as the trees were covered and were white as white could be, that's how I am! That's how YOU are! Imagine that!
After a summer that was hotter than hot, with no rain, suffering through a drought, I was completely ecstatic to see snow this winter. Oh sure, it came on Christmas night, but in my little simple mind, I took that as a Christmas present from God. "Look! I'm giving you snow for Christmas!" I woke up the next morning and there it was! And then again... and again... Beautiful!
I'm trying to look on the positive side of things in the new year. Not only that, but I'm striving for a closer relationship with the Lord as well. I hope you will, too. May God richly bless you in 2013!
