When do you open Christmas presents?

Growing up, we opened one on Christmas Eve and the rest first thing in the morning (as soon as mom would tolerate us being up!). It’s amazing that when you’re young you think that everyone is just like you.

Imagine my shock to find that my husband is a Christmas morning only kind of guy. It took years of pleading for my kids and me to convince him to let us open one little present the night before Christmas. Now that it’s a tradition for us, I think he complains for show but secretly likes it. Shhh – don’t tell him that I know.

I have a brother-in-law who won’t let my niece & nephew open anything at all until the whole family has breakfast & orange juice together on Christmas morning.

Daughter Rachel ready for presents!

My son & his wife jump the gun every year. They open presents whenever they can’t stand to wait any longer – sometimes days before Christmas! J

When we lived in Riverdale, North Dakota, the tradition for many in town was that Santa would come when everyone was at the Christmas Eve candlelight service. The stockings were empty when the family left & were magically filled when they got home!  Do you find it odd that every mom in town ‘forgot her purse’ as they left for the church?
My nephew, Christopher.
Whenever you open your presents, I wish you the merriest of Christmases and hope that you find joy in celebrating the birth of Jesus, the greatest gift of all.

At least Xena sleeps under it & not in it!

  1. Yeah, all those fun times melding traditions and coming up with new ones. The joy of becoming one :) then there was the whole St. Nick craze which my parents refused to go along with, and we had to contend with when our kids got in school.
    Joy, joy, joy!

  2. LOL I laughed at the community purse amnesia thing, Holly :)

We have Christmas with the hubby's family on Christmas eve, then head home and open our gifts during the day on Christmas day. Of course, I don't HAVE a Christmas gift opening tradition from when I was young ;)

Thanks for stopping by the Barn Door! We'd love to hear from you!
