Fall Means

Fall means winter is coming.

A couple of weeks ago, I looked out the window and saw my youngest skiing down a "hill" on one of our "sleds." I couldn't pass up the picture! The land around here is pretty flat, so the kids make use of any incline they can, especially the slope going up to the fence row behind the barn.

They also use anything as a sled since we don't get enough snow to warrant buying real sleds. The favorite is an old aluminum baking tray that they curled the front edge so it glides better. This one works great on ice, and surprisingly well on this fall's brown grass.

Fall means the Indians are coming!

Every October is the Ft. Masaac Encampment, a French and Indian War reenactment.

The Encampment is something our family has been attending for almost ten years and is easily one of our favorite events here in southern Illinois.

We love to sit in the music tent and listen to The Peacocks.

History in action.
So tell me, what's your favorite fall event?

  1. I may have to drag my husband to a Civil War Encampment-we haven't been to it in years.

My absolute favorite fall activity is the apple orchard with the whole family, including my sister's family.
    We love it!

  2. What a great picture of your guy :) And I love fall too - jumping in leaves (though it's been a few years LOL), hot apple cider, sweaters, the crisp air, cuties at Halloween, and corn mazes.

  3. I want to go to that Encampment!!! Love it! And all your photos are beautiful as usual and your cutie-pie son is adorable. :-) I am in agreement with Joanne about the hot cider. I also love that cool crisp air that smells so...autumny!! Sorry, couldn't resist making up a new word!

  4. Prudie, I remember going to the orchard with my fam and friends when I was a little girl up in Maine--great memories, not to mention the best way to eat an apple. LoL. Right from the tree. Yumz!!

LoL Jo, you know how little snow we get, so he sleds any way he can usually. I love fall, too. Something about those cozy days. =]

Elaine, wish you were down here so we could go together! It makes for a super great day that really triggers my imagination. =]

Thanks for stopping by ladies! =]
